Biography
Dr Simon Poole, FIEEE, FTSE, FIEAust, is an engineer/entrepreneur with over 35 years experience in photonics in research, academia and industry. He was a member of the team that invented the Erbium-Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA) at Southampton University and has built a number of commercially successful companies including Indx (Fibre Bragg Gratings) and Engana (now Finisar Australia) for Wavelength Selective Switches, which together have generated nearly $1bn in sales.
He is a board member of Finisar Australia, Cylite Pty Ltd (a start-up developing next-generation ophthalmology equipment), and the IEEE Photonics Society Board of Governors.
